Taiwan: Avian Influenza, poultry

In Taiwan, an outbreak of low pathogenic Avian Influenza affecting 520 birds including 230 deaths was reported in Kaohsiung. The remaining 18 361 birds were culled.

Vietnam: Avian Influenza, poultry

In Vietnam, outbreaks of H5N1 Avian Influenza were detected in two farms in Thai Nguyen city. Authorities have culled nearly 4 200 chickens in that area in order to contain the outbreak.

Africa: Cholera

In Angola, 10 186 cases of Cholera and 232 deaths have been reported so far this year. In week 50 alone, a total of 131 new cases and 1 death have been reported.
In Democratic Republic of the Congo, a total of 125 new cases were reported during week 50.
In Kenya, more than 1 400 cases including 13 deaths had been reported since 17 Nov 2008.
In Mozambique, a total a 131 new cases including 2 deaths were reported on week 50.
In South Africa, Cholera has spread from Zimbabwe to another 3 rural areas within the Limpopo Province. More than 100 people have already been infected in these areas. A total of 8 deaths has been reported in the country.
In Zimbabwe, a total of 20 896 including 1123 deaths have been reported so far this year.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever

As of 26 December, there were 34 suspected human cases of Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever, including 9 deaths in Kasai Occidental Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Results of some samples taken were still pending.

Gambia: Malaria

European countries identified 64 imported cases of malignant Malaria from Gambia. Out of which, 3 people died.

Sierra Leone: Yellow Fever

In Sierra Leone, an outbreak of Yellow Fever affecting 2 people was reported in Bo District, Southern Province.

Uganda: Plague

So far this year, at least 68 people died of bubonic Plague in Uganda. The outbreak was initially restricted to one district but has now spread to 2 others.
