Philippines: Cholera

In the Philippines, Pangasinan Province records show that Cholera victims have increased to 57, including one death in Bayambang town.

New Zealand: Avian Influenza, poultry

A surveillance programme on Avian Influenza found H5N1 virus in 2 samples taken from Mallard ducks in New Zealand. The samples were taken from healthy birds and there have been no reported bird deaths or disease.

Pakistan: Poliomyelitis

Pakistan reported 11 cases of Poliomyelitis in the past few days. There were a total of 1 210 cases of Poliomyelitis reported from 14 countries worldwide since 1 January 2008. The 4 endemic countries (India, Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan) account for 1 135 (93.8%) of the cases reported this year. The remaining 75 cases were reported in 10 other countries, which were imported from Nigeria and India respective.

Pakistan: Terrorist Attack

A major explosion had occurred in a hotel at Islamabad of Pakistan on 20 September, killing over 50 and injuring more than 250.

Iraq: Cholera

Cholera has spread through Iraq's southern provinces, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 68, including 5 deaths.

Kyrgyzstan: Anthrax, human

In Kyrgyzstan, an outbreak of Anthrax affecting 11 people was reported in Batken oblast. A total of 5 out of 11 cases were confirmed cases

In Russia, 2 fatal human cases of Rabies were reported in Voronezhska Oblast.

Nigeria: Cholera

In Nigeria, no fewer than 5 people were feared dead as a result of an outbreak of Cholera in Kano State.

Four people have died of Cholera, and dozens were admitted to health centers in the northern Tanzanian region of Mara.
